About Azamgarh
The region is named after its central command town, Azamgarh, which was established in 1665 by Azam, child of Vikramajit. Vikramajit a relative of Gautam Rajputs of Mehnagar in pargana Nizamabad, similar to some of his ancestors, had grasped the confidence of Islam. He had a Muhammadan spouse who bore him two children Azam and Azmat. While Azam gave his name to the town of Azamgarh, and the fortress, Azmat built the post and settled the bazar of Azmatgarh in pargana Sagri.
This region has been the origin of riddles, sages, masterminds, researchers and opportunity warriors since time immemorial. This locale was modified by Nawab Azamshah, henceforth the name was Azamgarh. On fifteenth November 1994, "Azamgarh Mandal" was made as the fourteenth Circle.
